Who does not qualify for a religious visa?
- A foreigner who does not intend to join a religious institution registered in Chile
- A foreigner who wants to relocate to Chile with the project to create a new religious organization not already registered in Chile. This visa only applies to members of religious organizations recognized by Chile.
Chile Religious visa eligibility
In Chile, the requirements to apply for a religious visa are:
- being a religious person who belongs to a religious entity legally constituted and registered in Chile, according to the norm regarding religious institutions (law 19.638).
- getting approval from the Office of Religious Affairs.
- having a source of income or having a religious entity taking care of your expenses while in Chile
- having a passport valid for at least one year at the date of the application.

Note
If you want to establish a new religious entity in Chile, you do not qualify for this visa. You must first register a religious entity in Chile and then apply for a visa.
Required documents to apply for a religious visa
Documents required for all temporary visas
- Copy of your passport (only the page with your photo).
- Background check of your country of origin, apostilled or legalized.
- Background check of your country of residence, apostilled or legalized, if you have been residing in the last five years in a country different from your country of origin.
Specific documents for this visa
Catholic institutions:
- Certificate of the congregation or church. The document must indicate the membership and economic dependence, legalized by the Bishop of the respective diocese in Chile.
- Approval report from the Office of Religious Affairs of the Secretariat of the Presidency (SEGPRES).
Institutions belonging to another religion or cult:
- Certificate from the superior of the church or cult. Indicating activity or economic dependence of the applicant, legalized before a notary.
- Document proving the validity of the legal personality of the church to which the applicant belongs. It can be issued by the Ministry of Justice (according to the law 19.638) or the Civil Registry.
- Approval report from the Office of Religious Affairs of the Secretariat of the Presidency (SEGPRES).
- Proof of own income. In case the church does not support you financially.
Note
Documents issued abroad must be apostilled or legalized adequately by the Chilean consulate in the country of origin and by the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as stipulated in articles 345/345 bis of the Civil Procedure Code.
